Projects
You are invited to explore our projects. They each showcase a special selection of material from the ABC's archives.
Moments in Time is a time capsule of archive treasures from the ABC Archive Audio Visual vaults. An ongoing project that will update monthly, highlighting the richness of the ABC Archive collection by bringing these gems off the shelves and out of the servers so that our audience, the Australian public, can access their social history online. Amongst the treasures are ABC's earliest Radio recording in 1932 with Eric Welch calling the Melbourne Cup and the advent of ABC Television with Michael Charlton opening ABC Sydney Network Television on the 5th November 1956. ABC Archives were there to record, collect, preserve and make accessible this wealth of archive treasures that you will receive through Moments in Time.
The Opera House Project is an online documentary that tells the story behind one of the greatest buildings of the twentieth century and explores the cultural heritage that has ensued for more than forty years to the present day. It allows the audience to experience the extraordinary events from 1954 through to the opening in their own time, collating a huge breath of archival material in short and long form. It also provides interactive 3D examinations of the architectural and engineering feats that contributed to the finished building. Available on many different screens, from connected TVs to tablets, desktops and smart phones.
Gallipoli: The First Day was created in 2009 as an experiment in spatial online documentary making, retelling the story of the landing of ANZAC troops on 25 April 1915. The site uses the Flash plugin environment to encapsulate mixed media, including archival materials, dramatised letters, newly created 3D elements and a documentary narrative. The project won the inaugural AFI for Screen Innovation and has been distributed as a learning resource to schools nationally by the Department of Veteran Affairs.
