Waru is the first full-length children’s program from Bangarra Dance Theatre.

Inspired by the totemic significance of green sea turtles in the Torres Strait, Waru tells the story of ‘Migi’ a small turtle who makes her way home after a long absence.

Even though it's an original story, returning Waru to Country is a significant part of Bangarra’s creative cycle.

Elma Kris, Jenson Waru Sam and Frances Rings discuss the significance of bringing the story to the Waiben, Thursday Island where it was performed in Kriol on Country for the first time.
