Melbourne man charged with murder of baby boy in Werribee
Police have charged a man with the murder of an infant boy at a property in Melbourne's south-west last month.
Twenty-nine-year-old Benjamin Joseph Swann appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates court today and was remanded.
Police said paramedics were called to reports of an unresponsive baby at a Werribee property about 4am on January 19.
The child was transported to hospital where he was assessed as having suffered "significant assault-related injuries", police said.
He died the following morning in hospital and police were called to investigate.
Today homicide squad detectives charged a 29-year-old Hillside man with murder and child homicide.
Police said the man was not the biological father of the infant but the parties involved were known to each other.
The man will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.
