Beverly Hills, 90210 actor David Gail dies aged 58
Soap opera actor David Gail has died at age 58.
He was best known for playing Stuart Carson, the fiance of Shannen Doherty's character Brenda Walsh, in Beverly Hills, 90210 and Dr Joe Scanlon in Port Charles.
Gail's sister Katie announced his death on Instagram. She did not reveal the cause.
In a heartfelt post featuring a photo of her hugging Gail, Katie wrote: "There's barely been even a day in my life when you were not with me by my side."
Calling him her "wingman" and "best friend", she continued: "I will hold you so tight every day in my heart you gorgeous loving amazing fierce human being missing you every second of every day forever there will never be another."
Gail remembered as 'a gift'
Peter Ferriero, the host of the Beverly Hills 90210 Show podcast, left a comment on Katie's post and described Gail as a "gift".
He wrote:
"David was a kind human. Someone I wish I spoke to more. He was filled of life and incredible stories. I am grateful I got to know [him]. I am so saddened for your loss, and the world's loss. He was a gift to us all."
Ferriero also shared some fond memories of Gail on the show's Instagram page.
He posted snippets taken from a video conference call when Gail first took part in the podcast, joined by the show's producers Charles Rosin and Larry Mollin.
It featured Gail sharing his thoughts about his role and briefly mentioning his past relationship with actress Robin Lively.
From Growing Pains to the silver screen
Born in Tampa, Florida, Gail made his television debut in 1990 when he played a character named Norman in an episode of Growing Pains.
He appeared in a string of TV series including Doogie Howser, M.D., The Round Table and Murder, She Wrote, before landing a key role in Beverly Hills, 90210.
He starred in eight episodes between 1991 to 1994.
A couple of years after, he moved on to play Dean Collins in Savannah before taking over the reins from Michael Dietz to star as Joe Scanlon in Port Charles.
He was the second of three actors cast in the role and he appeared in more than 200 episodes.
Gail's showbiz presence also extended to movies and video games.
He featured in Bending All the Rules (2002) alongside Bradley Cooper and Coollen Porch, as well as Some Girl (1998) and Perfect Opposites (2004).
His last onscreen role was in the horror film the Belly of the Beach (2008).
He also lives on through his character Sam in the video game Blacksad: Under the Skin (2019).
