Labor's Diedree Steinwall and Maryanne Stuart contesting pre-selection for Heathcote
/ By Nick McLaren and Kelly FullerThe Labor Party has confirmed two candidates will contest a ballot for pre-selection to represent the party in the state election for the seat of Heathcote.
Teacher and Sutherland Shire councillor Diedree Steinwall will take on trade union organiser and conservation worker Maryanne Stuart.
Councillor Steinwall is in her third term with the Council.
In 2016 and 2019 she made unsuccessful tilts for Labor in the federal seat of Hughes.
Ms Stuart has challenged sitting Liberal MP Lee Evans in the past two state elections securing a more than a 2 per cent swing towards her in 2019.
The ballot will be held on Saturday November 26.
Boundary changes in electorate
Electoral boundary changes have made Heathcote a notionally Labor seat, with a 1.7 per cent margin.
The seat now straddles the Royal National Park, stretching from Loftus in the north to Woronora Dam in the west, and south to Thirroul and Bulli.
A third Labor pre-selection candidate, high school teacher and former world champion triathlete Mick Maroney has pulled out of the race.
Neither Maryanne Stuart nor Diedree Steinwall were available to comment publicly to the ABC.
